Welcome the 2009 Troy Strawberry Festival Kick Off.

My name is David Pappas, I am the Chairman-elect for the 2010 Troy Strawberry Festival. My first official public act in that role is to host today's kickoff. I'm honored to do so and hope you enjoy yourself today.

We are fortunate to be able to again host the event here at the First Lutheran Church. We have asked Pastor Ric Barnes to deliver the invocation. Please stand as he comes forward.

Thank you Pastor Barnes.

I've excerpted the original content of the TDN article. This will not be shared publically in case Brown publishing gets snippy.

The Troy festival kicked off its 33rd year with a ceremony at the First Lutheran Church in Troy Thursday night.

2009 Strawberry Festival Kickoff

2009 Kick Off Host2009 Kick Off HostLast night I managed to stumble through the kick off for the 2009 Troy Strawberry Festival. You know it's bad when you have numerous people tell you "it wasn't that bad. You did fine". The biggest challenge, as I saw last year as well, is getting every dignitary recognized. Even though I had every one of them listed in front of me, I still managed to miss a few.

Actually, it wasn't that bad - but I'm definitely not going to earn a living as a public speaker. The Troy Daily News has a front page story. As is my custom, I've reposted it's contents along with a link to the original story. I'll keep my copy here private so unless you have an account on this web site, you won't be seeing it. See my directions on accounts for this web site for specifics on how to view content like this.

2009 TSF Festival Theme Announced

Because Brown Publishing views content as having a fresh date and remove content after a period of time, I am storing their article in total here. Please consider it an archive to the Troy Daily News:

The Troy Strawberry Festival has announced the 2009 Troy Strawberry Festival theme and logo.

The theme will be "Dance to the Music," and was selected by Becky Pappas, the 2009 Strawberry Festival general chairwoman.
2009 Troy Strawberry Festival Theme

The festival theme represents Pappas' involvement in dance and music. She has danced for more than 13 years with Tammy's School of Dance and assists in teaching dance. Pappas also has been involved with many local organizations. She has been the chairperson of the Festival of Nations for 11 years, president of the Troy High School Soccer parents organization, president of the Troy Soccer Club for five years, board member of Teen Leadership Troy, Chairperson of registration for the Troy Soccer Tournament and a Strawberry Festival representative for the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce.

Introductions

2009-09-16 Update: This is the original News From Troy (NFT) post from September 9th, 2003. This is one of several posts which were migrated off of the Movabletype platform in 2008 but only recently published.

If this works the way I expect I will have a way to keep everyone up to date on how the Pappas family of Troy is doing. I'm going to budget time to keep this updated on a weekly basis. Now I understand that this is at best impersonal. This doesn't replace my infrequent (at best) phone calls or e-mail messages. But this way I get to indulge a hobby while you all get at least some marginal value associated with knowing what we are doing. I don't expect this to be a literary classic or gripping in any sense of the word but hopefully you'll get some value from it.
