Restricting Ability to Add Accounts
Over the past several weeks I have seen a variety of accounts being set up on this site. I have in every case, deleted them. In most of the cases, the e-mail address used to register the account was listed as being associated with bots through several tracking sites. This morning's latest e-mail account was a temporary one issued through yopmail. I hadn't heard of it before, but after some investigation it is clear the site issues temporary e-mail accounts to overcome sites which require an e-mail account to create an account.
There is nothing interesting enough on this site for someone from France and a handful of people from Ukraine and Russia to want accounts here. I'm being played with - and I don't want to play. There are enough broken things on this web site for me to be concerned that someone will crack their way in and vandalize the place. For all I know, it's already staged to be done.
I am as a result closing the ability to create new accounts without my doing so. That probably does not close all avenues for vandalism - but it should diminish the volume of effort I invest cleaning up after obvious hacking attempts. If you just have to have an account on this web site, drop me a line and let me know. I can't for the life of me understand why you would want to have an account - but I wouldn't want to be considered anti-social.
